Police Officer Booked By Vigilance On Charges Of Corruption

According to the statement it was alleged by the complainant that Mehmood Khan, Sub-Inspector, then SHO Police Station Manjakote, Rajouri, due to some old personal enmity, framed his son namely Mohammad Tariq in a false and frivolous case FIR No. 77/2014 under section 376 RPC registered at P/S Manjakote by instigating a local girl and using her as a tool against Mohd Tariq.

He also demanded Rs. 3 lacs from complainant as illegal gratification for saving the life of his son. The complainant further alleged in his complaint that he could only manage Rs 2.70 lakh and handed it over to Mehmood Khan, Sub-Inspector then SHO Manjakote. But, even after the receipt of same, the above named SHO presented challan against Mohd Tariq in the competent court. However during trial of the case, the prosecutrix blamed the police for registration of a false FIR and denied rape being committed by Mohammad Tariq, which resulted into the acquittal of Tariq in the case.

During verification conducted by the vigilance organization, it is found that Mehmood Khan, then SHO P/S Manjakote by sheer abuse of his official position, implicated Tariq son of complainant in false and frivolous case and later-on by corrupt and illegal means obtained illegal gratification of Rs. 2,70,000 for himself from the complainant. Accordingly on the prima facie establishment of allegations, case has been registered at P/S VOJ and investigation is under progress

Basant Rath Finds Himself Under The Whip Of Law

A city court on Wednesday directed the police to proceed under the provisions of law against the inspector general of police, Traffic, Basant Rath and other officials if they were found involved in any cognizable offence.

The directions came after the proprietor of the Hotel Jahangir filed an application through his counsel Ishtiyaq Khan, seeking the registration of an FIR against Basant and officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation for “illegally dismantling canopy of the hotel.”

Advocate Ishtiyaq pleaded that the IG traffic has the authority to regulate the traffic but no powers under the law to dismantle a structure or any part of it.

Before the court of chief judicial magistrate Srinagar, he produced a video recording of the dismantling of the canopy of the hotel, the certificate granting the hotel approval for the construction of the canopy and some photographs to support his claim that canopy was legally part of the hotel since 1970.

He further submitted that the rule of law should prevail and no one should be allowed to violate the laid down law of the land.

“My client has faced damages due to illegal action of these officials. IG traffic has no authority to demolish any structure in his public or official capacity. He cannot direct SMC officials what to do and what not to do,” he submitted before the court.

After hearing applicants and respondents on the application (seeking registration of FIR) and taking material submitted by the counsel on record, the court directed the police to act under the law against the officials.

The court forwarded all the material which the applicant submitted before the court as proof and evidence to station police officer Shaheed Gunj with directions to invoke relevant provisions of law and proceed.

“In order to ascertain the factual position on spot the documents submitted by the counsel for the applicant purported to be the sale deeds and permission for construction of the canopy on spot along with the soft copy (pen drive) are forwarded to the officer incharge of the police station Shaheed Gunj along with this order, who shall after considering all aspects of the matter proceed in terms of relevant provisions of law,” the court said.

“In case any cognizable offence suspected to have been made shall proceed in the matter in terms of relevant provisions of law.”

The case was listed for a hearing on 9 June 2018.

Civilians are being butchered, apple orchards destroyed, valuables looted, and honour and dignity of a common man has become vulnerable whereas graph of the human rights violations have crossed its climax.”

Forces Using Girls To Spy On Militants: Hizbul Mujahideen

Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo on Tuesday warned of stepping up attacks on army alleging that the youth mostly girls were being forced to become informers.

In a new audio released by him, Naikoo alleged that the Indian army has left no stone unturned to inflict loss of life and property on the people. “Army has touched a new low by luring girls into trafficking and using them as spies,” he said.

“We have received information that army is luring girls and using them as spies on mujahedeen. Army is blackmailing girls and pitting them against us,” he added.

The Hizb commander said that army was using tours as a weapon to create a web of spies against the militants. He warned parents to desist from sending their daughters to the army-sponsored tours.

“We will not spare those parents who send their girls on army tours. Teachers too will face the brunt if they force students to undertake army tours,” he said. “I urge youth not to fall prey to army’s tactics and become informers.”

“Besides, we have also received information that army harass youth, torture them in camps and force them to become informers,” Naikoo said. “The youth harassed by army must put the videos on social media. Many youth have expressed the desire to join us to put an end to army torture.”

Hizb commander also alleged that Indian army is pushing Kashmiri youth to waywardness through drugs and other immoral activities. He expressed concern over the treatment meted out to Kashmiri prisoners.

“We have the capability to punish those jailors in their houses who harass Kashmiri inmates in jails. Our strength should not be underestimated,” Naikoo said.
